In automated production, handling welding wire coils efficiently can be a challenge. The workpieces in this project have an outer diameter of D580–890 mm, an inner diameter of D315–630 mm, and a height of 60–130 mm, with a maximum weight of around 350 kg per piece. Their size and smooth surface make traditional gripping methods less efficient and more labor-intensive.
To meet the customer’s requirements, HVR MAG developed a customized magnetic workholding solution for automated handling. The system uses an electro-permanent magnet model HEPMP-9953P200S, with 1 unit installed, combined with a HEPC21-100C full-wave controller. The setup supports one-channel automated control, allowing seamless integration with the customer’s robotic system.
The magnetic system enables stable and reliable gripping of welding wire coils during lifting and transfer. It ensures precise pick-and-place operation, supporting continuous automated handling without manual intervention. This significantly improves production efficiency and reduces labor involvement.
One of the key advantages of this solution is its simple and robust design. The system requires no air supply, reducing complexity and maintenance needs. At the same time, the electro-permanent technology ensures that the magnetic force remains stable without continuous power, eliminating the risk of load drop during operation.
In addition, the system connects smoothly with the customer’s robotic automation line, enabling efficient and coordinated operation. The result is a fast, reliable, and easy-to-use handling solution tailored to the customer’s production needs.
