Efficient material handling is essential in modern sheet metal processing. As laser cutting equipment becomes faster and more automated, many manufacturers face new challenges in loading and unloading steel plates. Manual handling methods often cannot keep up with production speed, leading to delays, high labor intensity, and lower overall efficiency.

Steel plates dimension and requirement:
In this recent project, HVR MAG provided a customized magnetic lifter solution for a customer in the sheet metal processing industry. The customer needed to handle steel plates sized up to 6 m × 1.5 m with thicknesses ranging from 3 mm to 12 mm. In addition, the system needed to ensure reliable unloading of cut parts as small as 500 × 500 mm within a 5.5 × 1.3 m working area.

Before upgrading the system, the customer relied on manual sorting and traditional steel plate clamps. Operators needed to separate and unload cut parts by hand after laser cutting. This process required intensive labor and often slowed down the laser cutting machine because unloading could not keep pace with production.
To solve these issues, HVR MAG designed a dedicated electro-permanent magnetic lifting system for laser cutting loading and unloading applications. The solution uses 14 units of HBEP-132011L-QG electro-permanent magnets arranged in a single-row configuration. The system enables stable and efficient lifting of both full steel plates and cut parts during the unloading process.

One of the key requirements was achieving more than 90% one-time unloading efficiency. With optimized magnetic distribution and reliable holding force, the system can effectively handle small cut pieces without missing parts during unloading. This greatly reduces manual intervention and improves production flow.
The electro-permanent design also provides additional safety and energy-saving advantages. The magnets only consume power during magnetization and demagnetization, while maintaining holding force without continuous electricity. This ensures stable operation and reduces energy consumption during production.
By integrating this magnetic lifter solution into the laser cutting line, the customer significantly improved unloading efficiency, reduced operator workload, and minimized production delays. HVR MAG continues to provide practical magnetic handling solutions that help manufacturers achieve safer and more efficient automated production.
